This past month has been a little crazy in the Carreon household. We started off the month of September with a flood in our kitchen due to a slab leak next door. This was one of those moments that makes me extra grateful to be a renter. The chaos that came with the leak led us to the decision to move. We have been planning to move for a little bit, but we didn't know when or where. We decided it was time to start seriously looking, and this past weekend moved into a townhouse about 15 minutes from our previous apartment.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't sad to leave our little apartment. It has been the perfect place for us these past 4 years. This was the apartment we both started our journey as graduate students and graduated 3 years later. This home was where we received phone calls about "grown up" jobs. And maybe most importantly, this was the place that we brought Dalton home to at 2 days old. We didn't mind the smog station view out our front door, or the nightly noise from the Disneyland fireworks. We've made friends with the complex managers and maintenance workers over the years. We loved our neighborhood church congregation who have become some of our best friends. This place wasn't just another apartment to us; apartment A was definitely our home.
My grandmother told me the other day that "change is growth". She said we lived in such a good place and now we were moving onto better. I couldn't agree with her more! While I did spend a few minutes with tears in my eyes reflecting on all the good times spent in the 1000 square feet, I am confident that we will make just as good of memories in our new home regardless of how long we stay. And I am happy to report that after 4 years of living without a washer/dryer and air conditioning, we now have both of those things!
