Ryan booked a cruise to the Caribbean while we were engaged. It was a cruise that set sail for a week out of Port Canaveral, which is the closest port to my parents' house. At the time, my parents were in the process of planning two weddings that were scheduled for the same week. My Dad always said that when all of this chaos was over they were taking a vacation, and cruises are the easiest thing. My dad knew what cruise Ryan had booked and called me to chat about the details. He told me there were only two cruises leaving Port Canaveral on the day after our wedding. He hadn't decided which ship they were going to book yet, but he wanted my feelings on potentially booking the same cruise. I told my dad that as long as I didn't know what was happening, I wouldn't be upset about my parents potentially booking the same cruise. I told him that I didn't want to know what they were doing either way. BUT I also told him that he couldn't let my Mom know what cruise he had booked because she would DEFINITELY tell me.
Now let's fast forward a few months to our wedding reception... My Dad finally lets my Mom in on the secret, and apparently lets many of the attendees at our reception know the details as well. I guess there was some inside joke going around our party that night and the newlyweds were the only clueless ones. We woke up the following morning and headed to our cruise ship. Ryan and I had discussed the possibility of my parents being on the same ship, and figured if they were taking the same cruise we would most likely run into them at some point during the week. We board the cruise ship and drop our bags in our stateroom. It was lunchtime and every cruise ship has an excellent sailing away buffet. As we are walking into the WindJammer to get some food, we see my parents heading out. We all laughed about the quick encounter, and honestly were relieved that we wouldn't be speculating the rest of the week.
The rest of the week we continued to cross paths with my parents at various trivia, activities, shows, etc. I guess it's true that your parents influence your interests because we all seemed to be showing up at the same events without any advance planning. We did a handful of things together during the week, mostly things that were off the ship. I know for many people this seems like a nightmare, but my parents wanted their own separate vacation and didn't want to spend much time with us. AND now we have this funny story to share... Ryan loves to tell people that his in-laws came on his honeymoon. In case you were wondering, we don't have plans to carry on the tradition and crash Dalton's future honeymoon!
(There aren't any pictures from our honeymoon because Ryan and I both suck at documenting important events in our lives. True story.)
